About the award
Each year, SCImago presents a cash prize to the best scientific article published in the journal Profesional de la Información during the last five years, in recognition of the journal’s contribution to scientific communication in the field of scientometrics.
Contest Rules
- All articles published in the journal Profesional de la Información over the past five years automatically participate in the competition. No registration or action is required from the authors, as all published articles are eligible.
- Each year, the best article published within the five-year window is awarded; this means that articles published in the current year will remain eligible for 5 years. Award-winning articles will be excluded from subsequent competitions.
- The Secretary of the Jury ranks the articles from the last 5 years that have received the most citations according to Google Scholar Citations, excluding self-citations. https://scholar.google.es/citations?user=zv5d9O0AAAAJ
- A second weighted ranking is created to give greater consideration to more recent articles. This is obtained by multiplying the citations of articles published in the last year by 5, those from the previous year by 4, and so on.
- The two rankings, absolute and weighted, are combined to produce a single list of finalist articles.
- The Jury, composed of academics and professionals in library science, documentation and communication, determines the winning article by scoring the articles independently, evaluating the following:
Quality of writing and text structure: the text is easy to follow, clearly written and well-structured, guiding the reader effectively.
Originality of the topic or approach: the author(s) address a novel subject or provide an innovative approach on a known issue.
Theoretical foundation and methodology: the article includes a solid and comprehensive theoretical background; the methodology is rigorous, whether experimental, analytical or descriptive, and can serve as a reference for similar studies.
Academic or professional relevance: the paper offers insights that can guide future research or professional practices.
Significance of the data or findings: the article is based on original data, treated appropriately and can be used as a basis for future studies or comparative analyses.
Quality of the discussion of the data: the paper acknowledges the limitations of the study or the aspects that cannot be determined with the collected data.
Relevance of the conclusions: the conclusions section specifies the key contributions of the paper, as well as its implications and connections to other academic or professional areas.
The award ceremony is held annually during the Conferencia internacional de revistas de ciencias sociales y humanidades – CRECS
